Osteopathy - Does it Hurt?
By Roger Kingston
Osteopathy - Does it Hurt? The second most asked question after “what is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?” and perhaps the most easy to answer. In skilled hands the application of osteopathic treatment should be painless but if you are already in extreme pain then there may be some discomfort moving you into a position for treatment; but you would already feel pain on movement anyway! In some scenarios like deep soft tissue massage to breakdown scar tissue and adhesions it can be uncomfortable but most people say “its a good pain”! Generally osteopaths are skilled in being able to treat you in whatever the most comfortable position for you is. There are numerous technique approaches available from the extremely gentle and passive “Cranial / Functional” to the more vigorous “Manipulation / Thrust” techniques. With thrust techniques a noise / crack may be heard in the joint being manipulated but it is painless and very safe. I personally treat lots of babies and pregnant women and in many cases the babies fall asleep during treatment. Osteopathic treatment is safe, painless and effective. |

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Thank you, you are a gentleman.
Thanks for this Intel Roger. I LOVE osteopathy and have had dozens of treatments over the years. It has given me a lot of relief from back pain, and general overall tension.
