Insurance Cover for Osteopathic Treatment
By Roger Kingston
Insurance cover for Osteopathic Treatment in Australia 1: Am I covered on my Private Medical Insurance? Osteopathic treatment is covered by most reputable private medical insurance policies. We would recommend that you contact your provider first if you are uncertain as to your level of cover as you are ultimately responsible for any costs should your insurer decide they will not pay. 2: What is HICAPS? HICAPS stands for Health Industry Claims Industry Claims And Payments Service. You simply present your Medical Insurance card, a bit like a credit card, and swipe it th throughrough the electronic terminal and your claim is automatically processed. An amount is automatically paid and any money outstanding is all you have to pay and yes we do have a credit card facility! 3: Can I claim my treatment through Medicare? Yes, with a referral from your GP as part of Medicare's EPC program you are able to claim approximately 90% of your treatment cost through Medicare and in some cases this can be bulk billed. To be eligible for this program you do need to meet certain criteria so please check with your GP. 4: I am registered for DVA (Department of Veteran's Affairs) Benefits. Am I able to have Osteopathic treatment? Yes, you simply need to ask your GP for a referral on your next visit and bring it with you to our clinic. We then bill the DVA on your behalf. It is also worth noting, that our appointment times are a minimum of 30 minutes of hands-on treatment, which is much better value than offered by many other DVA providers. 5: Can I claim for treatment through Work Cover? If you have sustained a work related injury and have lodged a claim through Work Cover then you are likely to be able to claim for your treatment. In most cases, we simply need your claim number and we do the rest. Our aim is to have you pain free and back to work as quickly as possible. ----------------------------- Ultimately, with any insurance policy or government scheme, the ultimate responsibility of any fees due is yours should your provider not pay us. |

Thank you for sharing this information, Roger. Insurance is such a complicated issue, yet most seniors don't understand what they have until they try to use it. Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick
Very good information. Thank you for sharing it. As was stated earlier, many seniors are not aware of what coverage they have. We need more Doctors who understand these issues to speak out about them. Mary
